Shiina is generally a calm and analytical individual who tries his best to the point of going overboard in order to please others. Though normally kind, he easily breaks into small bouts of anger and can appear quite menacing. Even outside of normal duties, he works diligently and continuously tracks data on the strangest of things, including other individuals. He deals with others in a self-assured, charming way, though this is mostly done for his own selfish benefits and advantages, particularly involving money. Such actions include selling off other people’s personal belongings and items, stealing, and so forth. He will often try to talk his way out of getting caught and seems to like making himself ‘known’ to people.

As being younger and only partially blood-related, he feels overshadowed by his half-brother, who was more likely to inherit the family’s wealth due to being more closely related. Because of these circumstances, he has a lack of confidence in his own abilities and accidentally tends to overdo things in attempt to appear more qualified. As well as that, he often acts much more polite and refined to people with power or have relations with his family. He will often pretend that he is wealthy, despite that being untrue and having no direct connection to his family.

Shiichi was born as the child of a wealthy businessman, Shouichi, underneath illegitimate circumstances where he was having an affair. The woman who he was cheating with gave the child to Shouichi to raise as his own, in attempt to gain connections to the wealth. She covered up this by telling him she wanted the child raised as a proper member of the Namikawa family and to live a proper life. However, Shouichi rejected the child out of fear that his wife would find out of his unfaithfulness and that his image would be tarnished. He was soon to regret this and be left guilt-ridden once finding out that the child died of malnutrition. Unknown to Shouichi, the incident was just a false story prepared by the woman.

After finding out that Shouichi wasn’t willing to raise the child, she decided to keep the child’s ‘survival’ a secret. She planned that when there was a good opportunity, especially when Shiichi was older, that she’d reveal his identity and have him successfully take over the company. In order to make sure the child wouldn’t be found out so easily, she gave Shiichi the nickname of ‘Shiina,’ which he was to use around all other people besides her, and lied about his age, lowering it by two years. Because of Shiina’s status as an illegitimate child and underdevelopment, this was quite easy to fake. This plan was easily ruined when Shouichi announced the birth of another child, Shinta, this one with his wife.

Still, she didn’t completely lose hope of having her son as head of the family. Personally, when he was older, she arranged for Shiina to work in the company in a close position to Shouichi, wanting her son to keep a close watch on her former ex-lover. She also believed that if there was a connection formed between Shouichi and Shiina, they would develop a parent-child relationship without knowing of the truth and he would be more willing to let Shiina take over the company.

Initially, Shiina performed the job cold-heartedly and with a grudge. His mother had raised him with stories about his father and half-brother that were twisted from the truth and convinced him that he was the rightful heir. As one of the younger workers, he often missed work in order for school and because barely any information was known about him, often drew up suspicions among other employees. Ultimately, because of Shiina’s great performance and skill, no light was shed on this and he rose quickly in positions, just as his mother wanted. The other workers disliked the biased, special treatment Shiina was receiving, often complaining about it and went to the extent of calling him ‘Shinta’ out of mockery because of his closeness to Shouichi and similar appearance to the businessman’s son. Even though Shiina continued to work hard as ever, he grew to despise this and his want to get in power became stronger. He created imaginary friends to provide some feeling of reassurance and confidence to stand against the other workers.

After some time, Shiina found that he was greatly skilled in cosmetics, especially when it came to theatrical make-up. He was highly praised in school and received much public attention because of it. Distracted from his original goal, Shiina asked to have a temporary leave using the excuse of school and went off to work for a movie company instead, along with a job as a model on the side. Though this went against his mother’s wishes and she protested, Shiina convinced her that he wanted to make himself known and earn the support, so he could reach the position as company owner easier. In reality, he just wanted to do what he liked and personally desired.

Shortly after returning to his original job, Shiina learned that Shinta had died in a plane crash accident while on the way to visit his now-ill father. With the circumstances seeming to be perfect, with the company owner in poor condition and his only heir gone, Shiina patiently waits for the right time to strike and reveal himself as the ‘true’ successor.

• Shiina has various imaginary friends he created to provide some comfort while working underneath the company. Ironically, he also wishes for a little brother or sister so that he would not be lonely.
• Shiina doesn’t know how to swim.
